Texas Artists: Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper

Texas Artists: Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper is a joint digital collections project. The goal of the project is to provide access to a wide range of images of works by Texas artists. The Texas Artists digital collection currently comprises more than 1,000 digitized objects that are held by the three partner institutions. The online holdings may expand to include images from additional institutional collections in the future.

The partner institutions include Central University Libraries’ Bywaters Special Collections and Norwick Center for Digital Services (nCDS) at Southern Methodist University; the Dallas Museum of Art; and the Dallas Public Library’s Texas/Dallas History & Archives Division and Fine Books Division. From 2009 to 2011 this project was partially funded and supported by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as part of the Train to Share program. The Train to Share program was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

Dallas Museum of Art Exhibition Records, Portal to Texas History

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) has presented nearly 1,900 exhibitions throughout its distinguished history. Hundreds of exhibitions were organized by the DMA from 1903-1983, reflecting the development of both the Museum and the city of Dallas, documenting a progression of cultural, social, and political environments throughout eight decades. Exhibition documentation is a primary resource for researchers of Contemporary Art, American Art and Texas Regionalist Art, African Art, Asian, South Pacific, Ancient Art, and European Art. Additional information about exhibitions may be found in the Dallas Museum of Art Archives, Exhibition Records collection.

This project is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
