The Mildred R. and Frederick M. Mayer Library collects and provides access to resources that support research on the DMA's global collection and special exhibitions. The library’s collection comprises over 100,000 volumes including books, journals, artist files, and auction catalogs. In addition to serving museum staff, the library is open to the general public.
LIBRARY ACCESS & RESEARCH ASSISTANCE
We welcome your art reference questions and will provide research guidance when needed.
Contact library@dma.org with questions or to schedule a research appointment. An appointment is required to conduct research in the library at this time. When requesting an appointment, please include institutional affiliation (if any), research topic, and resources to be consulted. A librarian will follow up with a confirmation and further details.
DMA docents and volunteers are asked to make appointments at this time. DMA staff should consult access guidelines posted to the Museum’s intranet.

- Librarians cannot advise on the value of or authenticate works of art. Please refer to the Appraisal and Conservation page for more information.
- To inquire about the acquisition or exhibition of works that you have made or own, please contact the DMA’s Curatorial Department at curatorial@dma.org.
VISITING GUIDELINES
The Mayer Library’s collections are non-circulating. Materials are requested from a librarian and consulted in the reading room.
• See DMA visitor guidelines for up-to-date information on Museum access and policies.
• Library patrons are required to sign in at the reference desk.
• Backpacks, large bags, and oversized coats should be checked at the Museum's Coat Check, if available.
• Do not bring in original artwork. Researchers studying their own art are encouraged to bring photographs of those items.
• Laptops may be used; Wi-Fi is available.

The Mayer Library welcomes and encourages financial contributions in support of the library and unrestricted gifts of materials for our collections. Donations strengthen the library’s ability to support the research needs of the Dallas Museum of Art staff and our community. Many of the library's most in-depth research collections have been built in this way.
